The RPIC Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop is the leading professional development event for federal and industry environmental professionals involved in the management and remediation of federal contaminated sites.

Following the success of the 2006, 2008 and 2010 National Workshops in Ottawa, Vancouver and Montreal, the 2012 National Workshop in Toronto will offer a wide variety of opportunities to learn about technical, operational and organizational challenges to the effective management and remediation of federal contaminated sites, as well as new approaches and techniques to address them.

The one-day Professional Development sessions will provide technical and management specialists with an opportunity for in-depth learning in both English and French on a variety of topics.

The National Workshop itself will feature concurrent streams on the first two days, focussing on topics such as:

  • Assessment and Remediation in Special Environments;
  • Managing Environmental Projects;
  • Human Health Risk Assessment and Risk Management;
  • Ecological Risk Assessment and Risk Management;
  • Risk Communication Strategies;
  • Innovative Assessment and Remediation Technologies;
  • Sustainability considerations in remediation projects;
  • Adaptive Management;
  • Liability Quantification and Reduction; and,
  • Social and Economic Benefits from Site Remediation.

The Workshop will wrap up with a half-day of plenary sessions and a keynote luncheon. Site visits will also be incorporated into the program to provide a close-up view of the special challenges and benefits of environmental remediation in an urban setting.

The Workshop program and trade show will be held at the newly renovated and LEED Silver certified facilities of the Allstream Centre, Canada's newest and greenest conference centre. The event will bring together and facilitate networking between event partners, government representatives, academic researchers and private sector firms. The welcome reception and gala dinner and awards ceremony will be held at the timeless Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

Toronto is the bustling urban capital of Ontario, the largest city in Canada and fifth largest city in the world, and we are delighted to be hosting the 2012 National Workshop there. We hope that you will join us in making the 2012 RPIC Federal Contaminated Sites National Workshop a success.

See you in Toronto!
